Well ladies and gents, in case you missed the riveting speech our dear President Obama gave this evening, allow me to walk you through the highlights.
Really, it's quite difficult to pick only a few, as the whole speech, I mostly sat bleary eyed and motionless, unsure whether I should simply be disgusted or contact the X-Files claiming that "W" had somehow inhabited the body of Obama.
Nevertheless, here's some of the kickers:
"Mindful of the risks and costs of military action, we are naturally reluctant to use force to solve the world’s many challenges. But when our interests and values are at stake, we have a responsibility to act. That is what happened in Libya over the course of these last six weeks."
My response: Horse shit. Obama is about as mindful of military action as an elephant is of the flies buzzing round it's shit. Secondly, you shouldn't be using ANYTHING to solve the world's many challenges - you should stay the fuck out of it. The mere suggestion that using force is even an option to police the world smacks of an atrocious arrogance I hoped to solely attribute to Obama's predecessor. I do however, have to give him props for admitting that we act in accordance with our interests. He didn't quite come out and say our "monetary interests," but all the same, he hinted that we are that fucking brash. Just to proudly say that when our values are at stake, we have to send in fighter jets suggests that you have bigger balls than a well hung steer. Our values? Since when do have shit for values? And even if we were that city upon a hill that Winthrop so eloquently (yet again, arrogantly) waxed poetic of, what the fuck gives us the right to take military action when another country exhibits values other than our own?
What about Saudi Arabia? Is stoning women in public part of our treasured values? Is dictatorial religious law part of our constitution? Oh no, wait - it's the opposite.
And that's just the opening of his speech.
For the next, what seems like endless paragraphs, Obama gives a play-by-play of the occurrences in Libya and how Gaddafi's tyranny and arrogance somehow allows us to pull out our aces of tyranny and arrogance.
He shoots down the questions brought by concerned Americans, opposed to a third conflict, opposed to the idea of policing the world when our own country is in a vortex towards absolute economic fall out. He says that as a leader of the free world, we can not simply stand by and watch, we must act on behalf of humans rights concerns since that is what we stand for.
This coming from the same guy who just announced the second grand opening of Gitmo, now with brand new water barrels and deprivation cellars - book your room today! Room and board (pun intended) paid for by the people - don't call us, we'll call you, and break your door down, rape your wife, kill your kids and keep you indefinitely without trial. God Bless.
In closing, Obama makes sure to note his "successes" in Iraq and Afghanistan, using the key words "Al Qaeda" to make sure the fear factory churns out some golden oldies.
In a tawdry attempt at inspiration, he closes with this comment:
"...when the news is filled with conflict and change – it can be tempting to turn away from the world. And as I have said before, our strength abroad is anchored in our strength at home. That must always be our North Star – the ability of our people to reach their potential, to make wise choices with our resources, to enlarge the prosperity that serves as a wellspring of our power, and to live the values that we hold so dear."
Ummm....you're full of shit, Mr. President. Allow me to introduce you to reality: there is no North Star beacon above your blessed purple mountains majesty, there is no city upon a hill. Our country has no values. The people that inhabit it might, but they are clouded over by apathy and inaction. You represent corporate cronies and are a disgrace to the republic this nation was founded to be.
True leaders lead by example. The contradictions so evident in your speech prove that you are either not aware of your own hypocrisy or you feel, as so many other presidents did, that those rules do not apply to you. You can wage wars and win a peace prize, you can preach change and be stagnant. You can talk of prosperity and pride when people sit homeless, dying from curable diseases in an infrastructure that feeds on the weak.
Shame on you Obama, shame on you.
If I were religious, I would not pray for you. I would pray for the soldiers you put in harms way in vain, I would pray for the people you promised prosperity to, that will never know it. I would pray for the people in the countries you invade and allow corporate interests to rape, under your watch.
But alas, I am not religious, and I do not think that God is watching. God does not bless us, God does not bless America. No one will make sure that everything will be OK. That's on us - you and me. Because, I can tell you right now, Obama and co. sure as shit won't do anything. We, the people, have to Do Something.

The Middle East is short on weapons and we're gonna help
You know, kinda like we help out the Israelis, kinda how we trained and armed the Taliban to fight against the evils of Communism...yeah, kinda like that. Since we saw such great results from our previous forays into arms dealings, we decided to keep the ball rolling, this time in Saudi Arabia. President Obama is going ahead with a $60 billion arms deal, the largest in history, to shore up Saudi loyalty against Ahmadinejad and Iran. According to Defense Industry Analysts, this deal is crucial to “US efforts to boost support from Arab allies against Iran.”
You know how they say history repeats itself? Yeah, you know why they say that? Because dumb shits don’t look back and learn from dumb shit mistakes. Let me give you a for example: World War I. What do you get when you write up a bunch of alliances with trigger happy countries? A world war. Only these days, machine guns aren’t the cutting edge of technology. What is? How about 84 new F-15 fighter jets,70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks and 36 Little Birds (all helicopters). That’s the cutting edge of what’s going into the Saudi deal once Congress puts a big check mark by it, using it as a momentary job creator and another reason not to sign off on any significant economic reform. Ah yes, there’s more than one way to skin a nation.
In other shadowy news, this deal would also lock Riyadh into at least another 20 years of favorable diplomacy with the US, something we don’t wanna risk considering their oil fields and arsenal. Clearly, we don’t feel that their dictatorial government, human rights violations (i.e. public beheadings of primarily foreigners) and general lack of a “free society” (i.e. women aren’t allowed to drive, are subject to physical and sexual abuse and extremist Islam is law) is anything to be up in arms about (pun intended). No, that’s for evil wrongdoers like Hussein who had absolutely fuck all to do with the largely Saudi crew of terrorists supposedly behind the 9/11 attacks...oh how the plot thickens.
Amid this haze are more talks of future deals involving naval and missile-defense upgrades worth billions of dollars over the next decade. Anyone find it largely ironic that Obama was awarded a peace prize? So, Mr. President what are you going to do now that you won the peace prize? Oh, I’m gonna send 50,000 more troops to Afghanistan, sell a bunch of weapons to one of the most volatile countries on the planet and then smoke and mirror you into thinking the Iraq war is a “mission accomplished” b/c I brought home some troops and gave it a different operational name. Score! Hey, if I go beat the shit out of my neighbour, sell crack to a child, and then pet a dog I just ran over, can i get a peace prize too?! Give me a fucking break.
Peace is not won, it is earned. Wars are not won, they are always losses. This triangle of well cloaked evil in the form of Tel Aviv, Riyadh and Washington only throws more logs on the flames of hatred for our meddling government as we wave the hypocritical flag of democracy and freedom. This goes beyond a diplomatic backing. This is a direct threat to those countries at unrest in this region which is ummm...all of them. You don’t walk into a snake pit, give one snake a mongoose and flip the other one off. Your ass is gonna get bitten, and rightfully so.
The Obama administration made it very clear that they were going to work towards peace and diplomacy in the Middle East. Everyone bullshits their way through elections but this is just downright inexcusable. However, as per always, it’s only inexcusable if we say that it is and so far, yep, nothing but crickets. Maybe we’re too caught up in the glorious thought of 75,000 new jobs barreling our way. A hungry people is an obedient people. They tell us to look left and we do, ignoring the violation of our trust, our dignity and our safety. The deeper we dig this ditch, the harder it will be to climb out, that’s just simple physics. The more we meddle, the more our name is spread in circles you do’nt want to be mentioned. I don’t want to retire myself to the fear factory, but unfortunately it’s not just depressive realism that dictates we’re on thin ice. Logic, historical events, common sense, diplomacy and intelligence dictate that friends aren’t made on the faulty legs of brown nosing politics. It’s made through hard work, a constant careful dance between compromise and fast morals. That ice we’re standing on is melting under the desert sun and we don’t have a leg to stand on.

Operation New Dawn
Quoting an email I got from President Obama last night: As Operation Iraqi Freedom ends, our commitment to a sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq continues. Under Operation New Dawn, a transitional force of U.S. troops will remain to advise and assist Iraqi forces, protect our civilians on the ground, and pursue targeted counter terrorism efforts.
Well, that just sounds lovely. Operation New Dawn...mmmmmm, would go well with a cup of Tea and a Harry Potter book. If anyone else sees the bullshit writing on the wall, feel free to do as I did and sigh exasperatedly and close my email.
Giving an illegal war a new name doesn't make it any less illegal, colonial or wrong. We're still occupying Iraq. I'm not even gonna begin to talk about Afghanistan. In so many words, we're still up to our necks in shit in the middle east and Obama takes this opportunity to give us all a fatherly pat on the back and thank us for the 4,400 American soldiers who died in that useless, futile crusade.
Granted, Obama didn't start the war but his middle eastern diplomacy follows in the footsteps of spineless democrats everywhere.
The corporate juggernauts still hold reign over the Green Zone, still pocket billions of dollars of Iraqi money without giving back to the people, even in so much as to fix broken water lines or roads. On an aside, before we invaded Iraq, Iraq had a higher literacy rate, lower unemployment rate, updated infrastructure and lower poverty rate. Of course Hussein was a murderous bastard but since when did that ever bother us? Chile, Argentina (oh, those were our guys)...Cambodia. We don't give a rats ass if dictators kill their own people...unless, they have something we want. If you turn your nose up at us, we'll gladly take the opportunity to raise our flag and send the cavalry in.
Between the colossal cluster fucking of Iraq's infrastructure, the incident a month or so ago where we just, poof, lost $9 billion of their money and our continued "stay" on their soil, it seems to me that the only thing New about this operation New Dawn is how much longer the Iraqi people will look up at the spires of the Green Zone and shrug their shoulders. Considering our behaviour, the Iraqi people have been WAY more than patient with us. Imagine the tables were turned. Some country invaded ours, toppled our government, destroyed schools, priceless museums, shattered the infrastructure, built a lock stock palace behind barbed wire and cement and over loud speakers insisted they were there to help, while robbing us and raping our natural resources...
ummmmm, I'd be fucking livid!
But we excel at not looking at anybody's views but our own. We're the greatest, the best and we never lose.
So, everyone, raise your glasses to Operation New Dawn, the dawning of a new era where Iraqis and Americans will walk side by side in the quagmire we've dug. Mazeltov.

Religion ruins everything
This wouldn't necessarily be true in a country where people educated themselves on the ills of religion while accepting and respecting the good (if any) that can come of them. However, we are not that country. Unfortunately, with our population and pull, that's an especially bad place to be standing in. If you haven't noticed the headlines in the past few weeks, there seems to be a mass hysteria enveloping the proposed Muslim center in new york which has in turn somehow fueled heated discussions regarding President Obama's true religious beliefs. Of course, not missing a chance to pounce on the idealistic combo of religion and race, the religious right has been shooting off vehement commentary denouncing Obama as an evil Muslim. In the words of Franklin Graham, “The teaching of Islam is to hate the Jew, to hate the Christian, to kill them. Their goal is world domination.”
Hmmm, I guess good old Graham hasn't read the passage in the Qoran where Muhammed preaches to his followers to accept those who do not see eye to eye with them, that they will come across believers from other walks of life and they should be civil and respectful. But oh wait, maybe he could've read that if the religious right didn't BBQ books rather than reading them. I smell the familiar scent of Nazis and burnt paper...
Since we Americans gobble up everything fed to us by the trick dealing hand of the media, recent polls show a significant spike in the number of Americans who believe that Obama is in fact Muslim. Furthermore, even those who don't think he's Muslim don't necessarily think he's Christian...I say he's Wickan...I mean why the fuck not?
In the 60s, some Americans were afraid that JFK would dig a tunnel to Rome, now we're afraid Obama has a couple secret service guys digging their way to Mecca between coffee breaks. What the fuck people?
As usual, right and left continue to go back and forth: he is, no he's not, he is, no he's not, he is...shut the fuck up! Who gives a dick stick whether he goes to church every sunday? I personally don't care if he goes to mosque, or temple or any where else. He can pray to his coffee maker if it makes him a better leader.
I will never understand the average American's incessant curiosity with everything about the president other than his presidency. Yeah, he sent another 50,000 troops to Afghanistan? Whatever, did you see his vacation photos? Yeah, he signed a health care bill? That's nice - what about this Muslim thing?
Meanwhile, peace loving Muslims here and around the world are shaking their heads at our ignorant arrogance and terrorists are finding more fodder for their hate with every newscast we send over our sickened airwaves. Islam is not the Muslim religion. Extremism is not synonymous with Muslim religion. Islamists are crazy fucks who took the Qoran, burned the pages, and stuck their own psycho manifesto in the same binding...so if you think about it, our religious right and their religious right has way more in common than the poor bastards imbetween...
